Austal Wind Express TRI SWATH 27

This 27m TRI SWATH Wind Farm Support Vessel is a new Austal design which will enable safer and more efficient offshore wind turbine service through its with seakeeping capabilities. The new design combines the seakeeping and fuel efficiency benefits of Austales trimaran hull configuration with a small waterplane area at rest, to deliver low vessel motions both in transit and when alongside turbines. This enables wind farm personnel to be successfully transferred in considerably higher sea states than is practical with catamarans of similar size. As well as minimising seasickness amongst personnel and providing safer transfer conditions, the new designes enhanced seakeeping performance can improve the economics of offshore wind farms. Specifications and/or general arrangement drawings represent just one example of how this design could be equipped.

Austal Wind Express 21

The Wind Express 21 catamarans are used to transport service crews and equipment to the many offshore wind farms that are located off the coastlines of several European countries. The Wind Express 21 wind farm service vessels are specifically designed for operation in rough sea conditions, and offer stability and fuel efficiency through the highly-refined catamaran hull form which requires less power and fuel to meet operational requirements. In association with a high tunnel height, Austales advanced Z-bow chine hull form enables the vessels to operate at speeds of up to 30 knots with targeted seakeeping ability in up to 2.0 metres significant wave height. The Wind Express vessels' practical arrangement enables comfortable transits for up to 12 wind farm personnel, with a high quality interior fitout, good visibility and ample fore and aft cargo stowing, as well as accommodation for the vesseles crew. Specifications and/or general arrangement drawings represent just one example of how this design could be equipped.

Austal Wind Express 27

These 27 metre Wind Express wind farm service catamarans will be used by UK-based Turbine Transfers to support wind turbine installation and maintenance activities in European waters. Austal will build them at its shipyard in the Philippines over a period of approximately nine months, commencing in March 2013. Rugged and versatile, the new Wind Express 27 catamarans will be able to transport 12 personnel and 10 tonnes of equipment/stores to and from turbines. This includes containerised items on forward and/or aft decks. Powered by four Caterpillar C18 diesels and propelled and steered by Rolls Royce Kamewa waterjets, they will be able to operate at in excess of 27 knots. Austales advanced Z-bow hullform coupled with high tunnel clearance allows the Wind Express 27 to maintain higher speeds in waves than competing catamarans, reducing both exposure to seasickness and service times per turbine. A ride control system consisting of forward T-foils and transom interceptors is fitted to further reduce unwanted motion and provide dynamic trim control. The vessels will normally operate with a crew of two, however the design includes four single berth cabins which makes it possible to operate around-the-clock with two crews of two. The cabins are in the superstructure, which is resiliently mounted to reduce noise and vibration transmitted from the hull. The catamarans are being designed and built to Det Norske Veritas +1A1 HSLC Windfarm Service 1 R1 classification and United Kingdom MGN 280 Area Category 1 requirements. Specifications and/or general arrangement drawings represent just one example of how this design could be equipped.
